7 Quick Takes Friday

--- 1 ---
Wednesday night, I made the first batch of dough for my special chocolate chip cookies using my new KitchenAid mixer.  It took a fraction of the time it normally does, and not once did I have to ask Ben to help me stir.  The dough is now resting safely in the fridge until Saturday.

I need a bigger house!  I'd love to have that bad-boy mixer on the counter standing at the ready anytime the urge might strike to use it.  Sadly, I don't have enough counter space, so I will have to haul that heavy thing out of storage any time I need it.  I'd love to have one of those fancy schmancy kitchens where the KitchenAid has its own cabinet.  You know, you open the cabinet door, slide the shelf out which holds the mixer and use it right where it sits.

This isn't quite what I was talking about, but would certainly work.  I'd just have to find somewhere else to store my pots and pans.  HA!
--- 2 ---
Bitsy is already doing so much better with regard to the impetigo.  The rash she had on her belly is clearing up nicely, and she rarely scratches now.  She's also doing well with the potty training.

In typical baby fashion, right now she sleeps, eats, poops and plays just a few minutes before sleeping some more.  When she's awake and playing, she's usually a blur of activity, so it's been pretty difficult to get a decent picture.  I'll keep trying though now that I have a new fangled camera.
--- 3 ---
Speaking of the camera, Ben pulled the new camera out last night and said, "Boy.. this has got too many buttons for me."  LOL!  So, I showed him the 3 buttons he needs to know: on/off, zoom and the picture-taking button.  What is that button called anyway?  (We sound like we stepped right out of a Beverly Hillbillies episode, don't we?)
--- 4 ---
It's so hot here.  As Southerners, we're used to hot weather.  We can take the heat, it's the humidity that makes it unbearable.  Our yard, or should I say our hay field, only has one strip of green grass.  Guess where it is?  Yup - over the septic tank lines.
--- 5 ---
I hate shopping ya'll.  Stop laughing!  I'm serious.  I don't like to shop.  Yet, the new school year is just around the corner.  Although I'll be glad when school starts again, and we're back to a more regular routine, I dread back to school shopping.  I've gotten most of the school supplies, but the clothes....   My boys are so darned picky about what they want, yet they don't want to shop with me.  How can you be so picky when you wear uniforms for pete's sake?!!
--- 6 ---
Some time ago Jennifer at Conversion Diary posted this video.  I've never personally been to Whole Foods, but thought some of you could relate.    Another reason I hate to shop...
--- 7 ---
I don't know about you, but I sure am glad it's finally Friday.  So, on that note.... enjoy!

What the Heck Wednesday

Yesterday was my birthday, so it's put me a little behind on my WTHW research.  Not that I did anything special, yesterday was much like any other day.  I just decided to be a little more lazy than normal.  Gabriel and I both had headaches and were a little cranky, so the less we did, the better.  Yesterday actually started by taking our new baby girl, Bitsy the chi-weenie puppy, to the vet.  Yes, we adopted that sweet little puppy that I mentioned Friday.  She's precious, and she already has everyone quite smitten.    I finally have a little girl in the house.  Yay!!

Although she looks black, she's actually more of a dark chocolate color.  So my boys wanted to name her Cocoa.  I liked Bitsy, so we compromised - Cocoa Bits and we call her Bitsy, Bit Bit, Lil Bit, you name it.
Even if she weren't so stinkin' adorable, I probably would have adopted her anyway.  I didn't actually see the condition of the home she was living in, but based on the young man I met with, I would assume it to be quite questionable.  She was not very clean, stank of cigarette smoke and was missing hair behind her ear where she had been scratching so much.  When I asked about the missing hair, the owner said, "that must be from them playing."  Ummm.... No.  So, I question the quality of care she was receiving as well.

As I mentioned, I took her to the vet yesterday for a check up.  She actually has a minor case of impetigo, which the vet stated is quite similar to infantigo.  Of course I had to google impetigo, and it says that puppies housed in unsanitary quarters are likely to be infected.  There you go!! We were given a shampoo to bathe her with every 2 or 3 days and an oral antibiotic.  Now that she's with us and being cared for properly, she'll be fine and dandy in no time.

The adorable puppy is just one more reason for present number 2.  I have two cameras: a Kodak Easy Share that Ben dropped while on vacation a few years ago.  Dropping it screwed up the focus and sometimes it will focus, sometimes not.  Sounds like some people I know.  If it were a person, it would fit in just fine.  But lack of focus is not really something you want from a camera.  I digress, Camera number 2 is a little Sanyo VPC E1090 point & shoot which takes decent pictures when you can find the charger.  Eh hmmm....  So, that leaves me with my cell phone camera.  Not really the picture quality I want.  I'm always asking other Elite mom's to take pictures for me.  Well, not anymore!  Ben ordered this for me.  Well, actually he told me to order it.  Ha!  Whatever! I got it!  That's what matters.  Yay!  I see lots of cute dog, kid and baseball photos in my future - maybe even some food shots to go with some recipes.  We all know any self-respecting blogger needs a decent camera, right?  At least something other than a cell phone camera.
Then Sunday, we celebrated Gabe's and my birthdays with my family by going out to eat after church.  Then we went back to my grandmother's house for cake and ice cream, and of course, presents.  My mother and grandmother surprised me with this!
The Kitchenaid Artisan 5-Qt stand mixer!  O.M.G!  I have to admit, I actually got a little teary-eyed when I opened this gift.  I have wanted one of these for ages - probably decades, but could never justify spending that much money on a mixer.  I've already had more requests for chocolate chip cookies, so this will come in really handy.  LOL!

Now - let's get down to business.  What the Heck Wednesday.  Are you ready?  are you sure?

Why would you do this to a perfectly good pair of skinny jeans?  I don't know about you, but there was no way my momma would've ever let me buy jeans that were already torn up.  Now that I'm an adult, I ain't buying them either.

Now, I don't understand this top.  What is with the oversized cowl neck?  Kinda reminds me of this.
What a cutie!

Okay, my poor dry legs are scaly enough.  Why on earth would I want them to look like giant fish scales.  If you'll notice some of the scales actually look like little shells and fish as well.  Are these supposed to be those scavenger fish you always see swimming around larger fish?  Just gross.

What is with this skirt?  It looks like it's tucked into the leg of her panties.  I thought I was the only one unfortunate enough to have things like that actually happen.

Remember what I said last week about an item that's described as upcycled?

Sleeveless, cowl neck hoodie.  Hmmmm.... It seems to me that if it's warm enough to go sleeveless, you probably won't be needing a hoodie either.

Grace Jones scares the crap out of me.

Seriously??  What is with all of the drop-crotch pants?  They're not cute - you just look like you have a diaper full.  Just sayin'

Okay, I was going to let this go, but this now makes approximately 1 million of those long, elf-looking hoodies that I've seen.  Why??  Remember, upcycled?  I like the color combination, but that's about it.  If you insist on reusing your old tee shirts, try using them as a dust rag.  Don't turn them into some freaky hoodie.

Not sure about this dress either.  Belted on one side, not on the other and pleats and folds right at the largest part of my body.  I want to hide my big ole belly, not accentuate it with pleats and drapes.

I'm not sure why, but this particular outfit reminds me of Olive Oyl.  Ya'll remember her??

Now playing at a theater near you, Aladdin. When did Aladdin, go blond. Notice that the pants have buttoned cuffs? Again, this is something called Eco. Based on Etsy's descriptions, "Eco" must mean be synonymous with shapeless, unflattering and ugly. Sorry folks.

Okay, where I live is hotter than the bowels of Hell in summer. I'm sweaty enough without adding leather to the equation. Leather shorts? That is a special kind of sweaty, right there folks. Now, add some opaque tights, a nice cardigan and you have something I may or may not have worn during the winter sometime in the 80s or early 90s. I plead the 5th.

Happy hump day ya'll!

7 Quick Takes Friday

--- 1 ---
Last Friday, my oldest son called me crying. He went on a field trip with his summer camp to the city pool. While in the restroom, he slipped and his foot slammed into the door frame. He jammed his toe and practically tore the toe nail off the toe next to his pinky toe. This child is milking this injury, and I'm just about fed up. Granted, it looks pretty gnarly, and I know it hurt alot to begin with. It's now one week later, and I'm not buying it! Whenever I ask him to do something he doesn't want to do, he claims "it huuuurts." Right.
--- 2 ---
The same son, is supposed to get braces soon. For some reason, he still has several baby teeth that he should've lost some time ago - around the age of 9 I think. The dentist gave him 6 months to work on loosening those teeth or he said he would have to pull them. So far, he's lost 3 of those teeth. I picked him up Monday at summer camp, and he said that he ate a tooth. What?? He said that the rice cakes I gave him for a snack were really hard, so he spit them on the ground. Soon he realized that he had a tooth missing, so based on past events, he feels sure he must've swallowed it at some point. I guarantee what he thought was a really hard rice cake, was his tooth. This child rarely pulls a tooth. He'll usually lets the tooth get so loose that he ends up eating it with a chicken nugget or something. He swears he didn't realize this tooth was loose, but who knows.....

In the past we've written notes to the tooth fairy explaining what happened with the tooth. This time I guess she just knew.
--- 3 ---
My back is better. Yay! So, now I have no excuse. I need to get my big old booty back in gear and start working out again. I bought some snazzy new running shoes in pink. Yes, I said PINK, and hot pink is always good.
Aren't they pretty?

I'm hoping to convince my hubby to clean his home improvement crap, er I mean stuff away from the treadmill so I can start using it again. I actually prefer to be outdoors, but it's really hot right now. As we say here in Arkansas, it's not so much the heat, but the humidity that'll get ya. LOL! I haven't run in almost a year. When I say run, I mean jog for 1/4 mile at a time. But, hey! You have to start somewhere, right?
--- 4 ---
I discovered a new television show. I've heard others talk about it before, but I'd never watched it until a few weeks ago. It's called Duck Dynasty. It's hilarious. I have to say that some of the people on that show remind me of some folks I know. If you get a chance to watch it, check it out.  Here's a quick preview.

--- 5 ---
Now that we don't have baseball practice 3 nights a week, I have to start cooking much more often. So, I'm searching for more quick yet tasty things to make. Sunday, I made my great Aunt Doris' chicken tetrazinni with the intention of having left overs for lunches during the week. HA! My boys left 2 small servings which I ate for lunch early in the week. I guess from now on, I'll have to double up on the casseroles if I want any left overs. Maybe I should start doubling or tripling up anyway so that I'll have one to freeze to prepare another day. Anyway, Monday we had taco salad. Can't really get much easier than that. Tuesday, I used the chicken broth left from preparing the chicken tetrazinni, and I made crock pot chicken & dumplings, again no left overs. Do any of you have some quick & easy recipes that you'd like to share? Maybe some crock pot recipes as well?
--- 6 ---
Speaking of easy meals.... This is a little too easy. I just read online that there are now mashed potato machines. It's like a slurpee machine that dispenses mashed potatoes and gravy. Think I'm kidding? Check this out:

What is that mess that dribbled out there at the end before the gravy?? Yuk!! What has this world come to? Thankfully these machines are currently limited to 7 Eleven stores in Singapore. I shudder at the thought of them coming to the States.
--- 7 ---
While on facebook last night, I was struck by a photo of 4 dachshunds sleeping all in a ball.  I commented to Ben that we needed another dachshund so that Travis would have a playmate.  After looking at the 50+ dachshund pics in that same album, Ben went to Craigslist and found a listing for a 7-week old female Chi-Weenie.  That's a chihuahua/dachshund mix.  Okay, the fact that it was a female was already a point in it's favor as far as I'm concerned.  I'm tired of being the only female in the house.  Then he showed me the picture.  Folks, I'm seriously considering adopting this sweet baby.  The thought of potty training a puppy is not all that appealing, but it's not really a deterrent.  Of course, Ben said he didn't care if I got another dog.  Hello?!!  Travis likes to snuggle with Ben, but only when I'm not available.  Travis is definitely my dog.  So, I think secretly Ben wants another dog as well.

Heaven help me, I think I may get the boys and Travis and go visit this sweet little girl this afternoon.  Ben may just come home to find a new family member.

Besides, how can you say no to this little face??  BTW - I called this morning, and there is only one puppy left which may or may not be the sweet little girl pictured, but still......

Have a great weekend everyone!

What the Heck Wednesday

Last week I featured shoes.  Although there are so many more ugly shoes out there, I'll save those for another day.  Today's WTHW tip - if the item description says, "upcycled," move along.  Trust me.

Are you ready?

The Oversized Bohemian Tribal Print Jacket - Boy does this bring back memories.  Is this Boy George or Debbie Gibson, oh wait!  Excuse me, DEBORAH Gibson.  Sorry - it was ugly in the 80's and now?  Yup, still ugly.

My little pony, my little pony, ahh, ahh, ahh, ahh  - Oh!  Sorry.  This falls into the same grown-women-should-not-be wearing category as the kitty shoes.  And the glitter fabric??  Maybe this dress should be called the ho and the horsey?  Holey moley, I just noticed the pink tail too. O.M.G!

Long Sleeve Bridal Bolero - Unless you're marrying a muppet, this fuzzy monstrosity should NEVER appear in a wedding.  Hear me ladies?  Raise your right hand, and repeat after me - I will never wear a furry, turquoise crop jacket in a wedding.  EVER!  Okay, hands down.

If there is anyone reading who has been living under a rock and doesn't know who the muppets are:

You're welcome.

Peacock feather leggings - Okay, I love peacock feathers as much as the next person - within reason. A small, tasteful pair of earrings?  Maybe.  A small print on a nice top?  Possibly.  But these leggings?  These leggings just make this poor young lady look like someone beat her - badly!  Hey!  Maybe she is bruised from falling off those shoes - repeatedly.

I was going to leave these poor girls alone.  This picture showed up early in my search, and I thought surely there's worse out there.  Well, each time I clicked to the next page, these ladies appeared at the top of each and every subsequent page.  Sounds like a sign to me.  Just add a hideous hat, and they would look like they took their cue from the Scarlett O'Hara drapery dress.  Trust me, only Scarlett could pull off that look.

The Pixie Coat - I thought this was a costume, but it turns out, it's not.  This reminds me of a play my brother was in, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.  By the way, this is one of those "upcycled" items I mentioned.

Hey!  You're in luck!  This sweater coat is currently on sale.  It's been reduced from $265 to $155.  Again, upcycled - need I say more?

Women's oversized gray pants - I'm baffled by these pants.  Was she in an MC Hammer video or maybe working on her sweet Ninja skills?  Kinda looks like a toddler in her jammies with a diaper that's really testing the load capacity.  Just saying'

Okay, I love me some SJP, and she looks great, right?  Take a closer peek at those boots - I'll wait.  Ewwww, right??!

Eco Dress - why does everything green or eco-friendly have to look so.... blah!  Surely something can be made with some shape.  I loved watching Little House on the Prairie as a little girl, and I loved Ma' Ingalls, but I don't want to dress like her.

Golden Antlers tee - HA!  I get it!  A rack on my well, uh.... rack? Eh hmmm.....  No.
Draped skirt - I, uh, hmmm..... I don't know.

Now, what do you think about this?  The SunHeart Goddess Cotton Boucle Coat.  It costs a measly $500.  She looks like she wrapped herself in a comforter.

Bustle ruffle striped mini skirt - why do I feel like this belongs in one of those awful Japanese cartoons or on one of Gwen Stefani's Harajuku Girls.

Blue Vacation Dress - I don't understand the name at all unless it's because this dress is so large and shapeless that you can get lost in it.  You could cut a head and arm holes in a Glad trash bag and achieve the same look.

Last but certainly not least - The Black CityScape Top - Talk about large and shapeless.  When you put your arms down does it look like the buildings are crashing down?  Oh, and what really gets me?  The model is wearing a face mask.  I don't blame you, honey.  I'd wear a face mask too.

Okay, that was fun!  Again, I apologize to anyone who might happen to own any of these items.  LOL!  No seriously, I'm sorry.

7 Quick Takes Friday

--- 1 ---
In case you haven't heard..... the Easton Elite 8AAA WON THE WORLD SERIES!!  Yay!  A fellow team mom posted a picture on facebook the other day, and it's so cool.... I thought I'd share.

--- 2 ---
We counted, and the Easton Elite 8AAA have played 65 games this season.  That's a whole lot of baseball people.  You wonder why we call each other family?  When you spend that much time together, you either blow up or get close.  Wednesday, July 4th, officially ended the 2012 season for us, so what on earth do we do with all of our time now?  The withdrawals have already started.  Friday, the 6th, the texts started, and plans were set in motion to get together Saturday, July 7th.  The 7th just so happened to be my baby boy's 9th birthday as well.  So, we had a birthday/cookout/swim/UFC watch party, and we had a great time with our Elite family as usual.  Happy birthday, Gabe!

Actually, We have several July birthdays in our Elite family - Jason, the head coach, and Ty our short stop as well as Ty's twin sister Taylor.    If I missed anyone else, I apologize.  Hope you all had a great birthday, and hope to see you soon!  Sounds like we need another party!!  Oh, and my birthday is in July as well.  =)
--- 3 ---

Jennifer at Conversion Diary shared this video a week or so ago, and I just heard it myself.  I get chill bumps.  I really like this song anyway, but this acapella version...... Amazing!
--- 4 ---
I started a new feature this week - What the Heck Wednesday.  I received several positive comments about this post, but I'm wondering - should I make it a regular weekly feature?  Do I have enough readers that even care?  Anyone?  Anyone?  Bueller?  **crickets**  Okay, I guess that answers that.
--- 5 ---
Speaking of readers - May I direct your attention to the right-hand side bar?  You'll notice under the About Me there is now a button that says Follow by Email.  If you'd like, you can become a follower of my blog by entering your e-mail address then pressing Submit.  As a follower you'll automatically receive any new blog posts via e-mail.  I know you can't wait.  Right?  RIGHT??!!
--- 6 ---
So, I've had back issues all week and haven't been able to do much. Thankfully, despite spending hours stooped over working on the team banner and a week in a strange hotel bed, my back decided to seize up two days after returning home. Go figure. I really am thankful that I didn't start having problems while we were in Dallas, because that would have been awful. I'm hoping the worst is behind me, and I'm on the mend. I'm sure Ben and the boys are hoping I'm on the mend as well.   LOL!
--- 7 ---
Cheer Perfection - did anyone see this show? I had planned to watch it, but my back was hurting, so I went to bed early and completely missed it. I know at least one person on that show and the preview was not flattering to her at all. What is your take on the show? Do you have children in the Cheer Time program or know anyone that does? The radio this morning said that our home town is now being referred to as SherWEIRD because of this show. Really? I guess I'll try and catch the rerun because we don't have a DVR. What?!! Did I hear you gasp? Yup - no DVR. I know, I know....
Well, it's getting late, my back is tightening up and I have a bucket of margaritas in the freezer calling my name.

Have a great weekend everyone!

What the Heck Wednesday

Today, I thought I'd try a new feature here.... What the Heck Wednesday.  I got the idea from a blog I follow entitled How Not to Dress Like a Mom.  Jae, the blog writer, titles her segment Freaky Friday.  Basically, she features crazy fashion and comments on it.  I often send submissions to her, so I thought I'd try this on my own blog instead.  Let me know what you think.  Is it a keeper?

I think most women are shoe lovers to a certain degree.  So, let's start off with some really um interesting? shoes that I found online.  BTW - a word of advice:  scrap baubles lying around and a glue gun do not a shoe designer make.

I apologize in advance if any of you own any of the shoes featured, and I gladly offer my assistance the next time you go shoe shopping..... puhleeeze let me help you.

Here we go:

Embroidered Kitty Mary Janes - Women's size.  Seriously??  Unless you are a 2 year old little girl, you should not be wearing kitty shoes.  Lucky for those of us with cat allergies, they also come in a chihuahua design.

Okay, these shoes aren't so bad, until.......

That's right, a secret compartment built into the heel.  Now, I have to admit, it seems to be a pretty good idea.  But think about it - instead of toilet paper dragging from your shoe, imagine a tampon hanging out of your shoe??  'Nuff said.

Okay, all I can say here is Ewwww.... why??  The folks who made these shoes have all kind of freakish footwear from vampire themed to zodiac sign inspired.  This pair actually made me shudder.  They are called the Scorpio Queen, and the description touts their taxidermy skills stating those are REAL scorpions on the sides and the heels.  They will design shoes for any zodiac sign.  Wonder what they would come up with for Leo?  Again, eww......

Wow!  I have some beads in my Christmas ornament box. Maybe I can make my own pair of these.  Think I could get $150 for them?  No?  Moving along.....

Since I tend to sit on my feet quite often, these probably wouldn't be a good idea.  $132.00

Again with the kitty shoes??  Maybe I need to do an animal-themed shoe post one day.  I'm seeing way too many of them.  These are called Lucky Black Cat.  If you paid the $400 asking price for these things, you need more than luck.  Just sayin'.

Custom Glow In the Dark/Cosmic Nebula Shoes - I really can't believe these.  It looks like someone dug through the bottom of their closet and found the nastiest, stankiest pair of shoes they could.  They probably dripped paint on them by accident and decided to just go with it.  Hey, maybe it's the stink that makes them glow in the dark.  Okay, I just grossed myself out.

Felted Wool Shoes with Lacy Detail - $140.  The description says these are perfect for indoors or outdoors.  These look like someone ripped the lining out of a pair of shoes and are wearing the lining.
Leather platform creepers - $90.  Creepers?  I say Creepy!  These look like they belong to the bride of Frankenstein.  I think the fishnet stockings really make these.  Don't you?

What can I say about these?   OMG!  O.M.G!!  Crocs, albeit, somewhat comfortable and good for wearing while doing nasty yard work, fashionable they are not.  These Crocs?  Well... these are just hideous!  HIDEOUS!

Okay - I've had enough fun for one day.  There are so many pairs of shoddy shoes out there, I could go on for days.  Yet, I just barely scraped the surface.  Let me know what you think?  Should this be a regular?

I'd like to close with a pretty pair of shoes to help cleanse the palate, so to speak, but I think I burned my retinas with that last pair and can no longer focus properly.  Oh well....

Happy hump day ya'll!
