7 Quick Takes Friday

--- 1 ---

The first full week of Summer!  Yay!  My boys are coming home from summer camp absolutely filthy and exhausted.  LOL!  I love it!!

I snapped this picture of Gabe with my cell phone, so I apologize for the poor quality.  But this was taken Monday, the first day of summer camp.  We had been home maybe 10 minutes max before Gabe passed out on the couch.  He was one tired little man!

I wish I had taken a picture of Garrett's white t-shirt he wore.  I don't understand how boys can get so dirty.  He looked as if he'd been rolling in the dirt.  I may have to trash that shirt.  White clothing has now been banned from their summer camp wardrobe.

I like to cook when I have time, but it's rare to have the kind of time I'd like to be able to really cook.  Since time is such a rare commodity, I'm always on the look out for quick and easy recipes that my family would enjoy, and I actually found a few recently that I wanted to try.  This week I managed to eke out a little extra time.  I'm not sure where that extra time came from, but I definitely took advantage of it and tried some of those new recipes.

Monday night I made a sopapilla cheesecake.  I was really yummy, in fact, by Tuesday evening the whole 9x13 pan of cheesecake was gone.

Tuesday, I made a key lime pie.  Pies are not something I usually make.  I don't know why.  I can't believe how easy this pie was, and it's perfect for a hot summer night.  I'll definitely make this again.

Check back, I'll post the recipe for this very soon.

Fellow bloggers, I have a question.  Some time ago a blogger I follow posted her recommendations on increasing blog traffic.  One thing she suggested was taking word verification off comments.  She commented that it's a pain the backside, and no one wants to go through that to leave a quick comment on your blog.  It made sense to me.  I know I don't necessarily like that process myself.  HOWEVER, now that I have removed the word verification, I'm receiving tons of spam messages.  Any suggestions?

Speaking of Spam, the other day my husband and I were talking about Spam (the canned meat product Spam, not internet spam), and the boys asked about it.  When I explained what it was, my oldest said that his grandma (my mother in law) cooks that sometimes, and he likes it. So, I bought a can the next time I went to the store.  I doubted Garrett would actually eat it, but he did.  It's not the most healthy thing in the world, but sometimes I'm just grateful I can find something he'll eat since he's eating basically every 1/2 hour!  UGH!

How on earth do teenage boys, well actually he won't be a teen for a few more months, eat so dang much??  Garrett is eating massive quantities of food, and 30 minutes later he's rummaging through the cabinets again claiming he's "huuuuuungryyyyyyy."

Have I said TGIF, yet?  No?  Well....T.G.I.F!!!  I'm tired.....  and you know the saying, there's no rest for the weary.

Anyone have any tips for getting an almost-ten-year-old to sleep in his own bed?  He starts off there, but sometime during the night, he migrates to our bed.  Nine times out of ten, I never even know he's there until a pudgy little hand pops me the face or I get kicked.  But I'm sooooo tired.  I don't think I've slept well since.... well, since I had kids.  Oh my, that's a long time to be sleep deprived.  But now some of the stupid things I've done lately are starting to make sense.  Sleep deprivation.  That's my story, and I'm sticking to it!

If you're in Central AR this weekend and are looking for something to do, come to the new baseball fields at Burns Park in North Little Rock and watch some baseball. Our AR Easton Elite 9 Major team is hosting a Cal Ripkin baseball tournament to raise money to help offset our World Series expenses.

Most Cal Ripkin league seasons are over, so the teams playing in this tournament are typically All Star teams from those leagues who are preparing for their State tournaments.  In other words, there will be some really good ball games to watch.  Come out and support these teams, and most especially the AR Easton Elite.

Thank you!
